Terrifying
For me the truly terrifying fact about the Borg is the stripping of humanity, all things that make us individuals, they refer to this as becoming part of the Hive mind wiki.
A shared consciousness to which every drone (Former individual) is interconnected to through subspace in some endless hard-drive recording of a species that continues to learn and evolve.
The Borg Assimilation Process
It all begin's with Nano-Technology, little tiny machines which have a variety of purposes, but on initial contact their one and only goal is to take control over your mind and body turning about half of you into a machine.
From a once developing individual, into a relentless machine, moving from one task to the next, until eventually you are surplus to requirements, at which point, you become spare parts for the healthy Drones.
The Borg Scenario
The real threat I feel and an aspect that cannot be argued is that, the sheer relentlessness of these creatures is beyond obsessive, the sheer will and collective focus on the task at hand makes this a devastating enemy indeed, a laser focus on completion.
Scary, but as was proved as adaptive as anyone may be sometimes blink luck and sheer ignorance prevail, time and again the simple act of, why not?, seem to be central in defeating this relentless creation.
Adaptation Aside
On a personal note, Star Trek Voyager didn't do much to reinforce the sheer awesomeness of The Borg, Remember this, an enemy that doesn't sleep, learns through and gains drones in every battle, and is focused on your complete destruction, well, games a bogey.
